Women’s Tennis Blanks Lesley, 9-0

BOSTON, Mass. – A total team effort lifted women's tennis to their second 9-0 win in the last three matches as the Beacons cruised past Lesley University Tuesday afternoon at BC High School Tennis Courts.

The Beacons quickly gained momentum in Tuesday's non-conference match, as the first and third double teams cruised to 8-1 victories.  The second doubles team of Chloe Gates (Plymouth, Mass.) and Evangelia Vassiliadis (Weymouth, Mass.) had to battle back from an early deficit to earn the win as they forced the tiebreaker.  The duo would earn the decisive win thanks to an 8-7 (8-6) victory.

In singles play, Shelby Parent (Cambridge, Minn.) had the most dominant performance of the afternoon as she earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles.  Katie Gauthier (West Boylston, Mass.) also made quick work of Lesley's Maddie Abbot with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 victory at first singles.

Vassiliadis completed her two-win day with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at second singles.  Meaghan Moriarty (Norton, Mass.) was one of three Beacons that had to go to tiebreakers.  The Norton native registered a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win to seal the win. 

At fourth singles Valeria Tueme (Bonney Lake, Wash.) grinded out a 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 10-7 victory, while Gates completed her day with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 win at sixth singles.

In the lone exhibition match of the day Laryssa Dure (Brockton, Mass.) earned a solid 8-4 win over Lesley's Annie Dai.

  • Tuesday's match marked the first meeting between the Beacons and Lesley since 1998
  • With Tuesday's win, Gates is now 3-0 on the year in singles play, while Parent improved to 4-0


The Beacons will host Western Connecticut State University on Saturday at 1 pm in their first home Little East Conference match of 2019.
