BOSTON, Mass.—Despite valiant efforts across the board, UMass Boston women's tennis (2-6, 0-4 LEC) dropped a 9-0 contest to Bridgewater State (6-2, 4-0) Saturday afternoon at the BC High School Tennis Courts.
Senior captain Hieu Nguyen (Dorchester, Mass.) and Imani Williams (Roxbury, Mass.) were the only Beacons to grab more than one game in singles play, as the Beacons took on the Little East Conference favorites.
In doubles play, Nguyen and Samantha Counts (Bridgewater, Mass.) dropped their number one doubles match by an 8-4 score to Lauren Hopp and Jenna Williamson. Williams and Solveig Castelli (Precojo, France) fell at number two doubles by an 8-3 score at the hands of Ashley Pereira and Brittney Hislop. And at number three doubles, Alison Vautrin and Rachael Eramo took an 8-0 victory over the Beacons duo of Stephony Reeves (Dorchester, Mass.) and Shihyu Yang (Taipei, Taiwan).
Singles action would be more of the same, as Vautrin started off singles with a win at number four over Castelli 6-1, 6-0. In number five singles, Cindy Lee made her Beacons debut (Pomona, Calif.) but fell 6-0, 6-0 to Hopp. At number two singles, Counts couldn't fend off Pereira who took a 6-0, 6-1 win.
Number one singles resulted in a 6-2, 6-1 win for Williamson over Nugyen, while Williams dropped a 6-2, 6-1 contest to Hislop at number three singles.
Finally, Melissa Flynn took down Ngoc Le (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) by a 6-0, 6-0 score to round out the match.
The Beacons will return to the court on Tuesday when they host Salem State at 3:00 p.m.
