PAWTUCKET, R.I. – After claiming the Little East Conference Regular Season championship, freshman goalkeeper Maria Spylios (Leominster, Mass.) and sophomore back Mary Jo Murphy (Worcester, Mass.) earned Little East Conference weekly honors.
Last week, the Beacons extended their win-streak to 14 straight games, and their unbeaten streak to 15 (14-0-1), following a 0-0 tie at Western Connecticut State University.
For her standout play as both a back and a forward in the 4-1 win over Bridgewater State, Murphy collected her second weekly honor of 2019. Against the Bears, the Worcester native registered a goal and an assist. In Saturday's draw with WCSU, Murphy held the Colonials off the scoreboard for 110 minutes as the Beacons claimed the top-seed in this week's conference tournament.
Spylios, who is having one of the best rookie seasons in UMass Boston history, picked-up both Rookie of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week accolades. She notched three saves in the win over Bridgewater State to earn her 16th win of the season. In Saturday's draw with the Colonials, Spylios made a season-high eight saves.
The Beacons will be back in action on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the semi-final round of the Little East Conference Tournament.
