BOSTON, Mass.—After a pair of tight non-conference victories, UMass Boston women's basketball coach Kristina Baugh was named the WHoopDirt.com Division III Coach of the Week presented by Pivot Analysis, WHoopDirt.com announced on Tuesday morning.
Baugh led the Beacons to a pair of hard-fought victories over WPI (49-42) and #25 Emmanuel College (84-79).
In Tuesday's win over the previously undefeated Engineers, the Beacons finished the game on a 9-2 run to defeat their New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference opponent.
UMass Boston carried that momentum over into Saturday's home opener. The Beacons earned their first-ever win over a nationally-ranked program by outscoring Emmanuel 47-39 in the second half. The Beacons trailed by three in the final two minutes, only to go on an 8-0 run to close out the Saints.
The Beacons are 4-0 for the third time in five years under head coach Kristina Baugh. UMass Boston will return to action on Sunday, when they travel to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
