NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Freshman forward Olivia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) has earned the title of Little East Conference Rookie of the Week and New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Rookie of the Week.
It is the third time this season she has been named Little East Conference Rookie of the Week and first time she has been recognized by NEWBA.
Murphy was named the Most Valuable Player of the Key Largo Classic Monday, as UMass Boston won their second title of the season. She was also named MVP and Little East Conference Rookie of the Week in late November after leading the Beacons to a title in the UMass Boston Tip-Off Tournament.
The freshman forward averaged 19.66 points and 11 rebounds per game in three contests to help UMB finish 2-1 on the week. In two games in Florida, Murphy recorded her fourth and fifth career double-doubles, while setting new career-highs for points each day.
In Sunday's first round game, Murphy led all players with 20 points and added 15 rebounds in a 69-60 double overtime win over Maine Maritime. She followed that performance with a career-high 21 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to lead UMass Boston to a 76-39 win over Fitchburg State in the Key Largo Classic Championship Game.
To finish out the week, Murphy led all scorers with 18 points and chipped in with eight rebounds in a 71-57 loss to Rhode Island College.
Fellow forward Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, Mass.) was named to the NEWBA Honor Roll, after averaging 13.66 points and 15 rebounds per game during the three games.
