Distance Runners Dominate At Carla Coffey Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – At the Smith College Carla Coffey Invitational distance runners Cameron Chase and Jimmy Cannon combined for three first place finishes as they led the men's track and field team.


Men's – No Team Finish


Chase picked-up two first place finishes first taking the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.75.  He also posted a time of 4:12.08 to take first in the 1,500-meter run.  Cannon's first place finish came in the 5,000-meter run with his time of 16:51.51.

Logan Mitchell sprinted his way to a fourth place finish in the 200-meter dash as he tripped the sensor with a time of 23.63 seconds.  Christian Hodgson continued his strong performances in Saturday's meet, as the freshman finished in second place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.73.  Adrian Higgins finished in fourth place in the 400 after crossing the finish line with a time of 52.27.

Anthony Lynch was a fourth place finisher in the 800 with his time of 2:14.91, while William Barrett took third in the 1,500 with a time of 4:25.35.  Prosper Lubega registered a fourth place time in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.66).  The 4x400-meter relay team of Christopher Fleurima, William Hua, Justyn Santiago and Lynch recorded a combined time of 3:38.70 to take second. 

In the field events, Lubega finished in second in the high jump (5-08.75).  Jonathan Reed, Mitchell, and Fleurima finished in fifth, sixth, and seventh place in the long jump following jumps of 19-04.75, 19-02.50, and 18-07.00 feet respectively.

The Beacons lone thrower in Julian Collins competed in three events on Saturday.  His best finish came in the hammer throw as he took second with a toss of 132-10 feet.  He also finished in third place in the discus (111-04) and seventh in the shot put (35-05.25).  Mitchell recorded a throw of 113-07 to take sixth in the javelin.


The Beacons will travel to Springfield College for the Outdoor Classic next Saturday.
