WALTHAM, Mass. – In their first meet of 2019 the men's track and field team recorded a combined 37 points to earn a fifth place finish overall at the Brandeis University Reggie Poyau Memorial Invite Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Led by a second place finish from Logan Mitchell (Franklin, Mass.) in the long jump, the Beacons got their 2019 schedule off to a solid start at the regional meet. Mitchell registered a jump of 19-11.50 feet in the LJ. Adrian Higgins (Milton, Mass.) was the second Beacon to record a second place finish on Saturday as the junior finished the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.39 seconds.
Julian Collins (Asheville, N.C.) grabbed a third place finish in the weight throw with a final distance of 45-10.50 feet, which is a season-best for the thrower.
Mitchell also led UMass Boston in the 60- and 200-meter dashes with a time of 7.47 and 24.03 seconds respectively. Khorey James (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) recorded the second-fastest time for the Beacons in the 60 as he tripped the sensor with a time of 7.54 seconds. Adam Elyounssi posted a final time of 24.12 to finish in seventh place in the 200 to help fuel the Beacons successful showing.
Christian Hodgson (Leeds, Mass.) collected a fifth place finish in the 400 with his final time of 53.20 seconds. In the 800-meter run, Cameron Chase (Lutz, Fla.) and Prosper Lubega (Watertown, Mass.) finished in fourth and fifth place with times of 2:04.07 and 2:06.11 respectively.
Jimmy Cannon (Quincy, Mass.) was the lone Beacon to compete in the 3,000-meter run as the senior finished with a time of 9:29.33. Xavier Hill (Hyde Park, Mass.) and Jacey Kretas (Townsend, Mass.) recorded matching times of 9.19 seconds in the 60-meter hurdle prelims.
A trio of Beacons relay teams were in action in the 4x400. Team 'B' led the group with their time of x3:36.60. Team 'C' finished with a combined time of x3:48.75, while Team 'A' posted a time of 3:59.88.
Lubega registered a fifth place finish in the high jump with a final height of 5-10.75 feet.
The Beacons will compete at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational next Sunday at the Gordon Indoor Track Facility at Harvard University.
