Track and Field Competes at Rhode Island College Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In just their second meet of the 2017-18 season, track and field team registered three first place finishes Saturday afternoon at the Rhode Island College Invitational.

Allen Liang (Malden, Mass.) was one of the two individuals and one relay team to record a first-place finish in Saturday's regional meet.  The freshman thrower won the shot put with an impressive throw of 44-01.25 feet.  For the women's team, Wadeline Jonathas (Gonaives, Haiti) collected another first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.02 seconds.  The women's 4x200-meter relay team also registered a top time in Saturday's meet as the quarter of sprinters registered a combined time of 1:47.26.

Also posting solid performances was Lauren Olton (Stoneham, Mass.) who finished in second place in the high jump with a leap of 5-00.25 feet.  Ashley Hernandez (Miami, Fla.) recorded an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.54 seconds. 

A trio of Beacons finished in eighth, ninth, and 10th place in the 400-meter dash with times of 1:06.48, 1:06.52, and 1:06.52.  Abigail Jean-Baptiste (Milton, Mass.) also earned a second-place finish in the long jump as she recorded a final mark of 16-06.00 feet. 

In the men's 200-meter dash Garth Miriyoga (Johannesburg, South Africa) led the Beacons sprinters with a ninth-place finish after recording a time of 23.59.  Dom Nda (Pittsfield, Mass.) completed the 200 with a time of 23.91 to earn a 14th place finish overall.

Newcomer Anthony Nguyen registered a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with his time of 53.48 seconds.  The men's 4x200-meter relay teams finished in third and fourth place respectively with times of 1:33.15 and 1:36.51.

Prosper Lubega (Watertown, Mass.) completed in the high jump with a final height of 5-10.00 feet to secure a top-4 finish overall. 

Fellow thrower Julian Collins (Asheville, N.C.) completed the weight throw with a final toss of 44-06.00 feet to finish in sixth place. 


The Beacons will return to action on January 13 when they compete at the Tufts University Invite.
