BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Led by thrower Jacob Hirtle (Hingham, Mass.) and the men's 4x100 meter relay team, the track and field teams continued to improve in all facets as they battled the weather and wet conditions Saturday afternoon at the Bridgewater State University Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For Hirtle he broke the program record in the hammer throw with an impressive toss of 145-10, breaking the program record set by national champion Rob Grieco. Grieco held the mark since the 1998 season, when he posted a throw of 139-03.75 feet.
In the 4x1, the team of Garth Miriyoga (Johannesburg, South Africa), Dom Nda (Pittsfield, Mass.), Bless Amedoadzi (Boston, Mass.), and Stefan Powell (Hyde Park, Mass.) broke the program record set in 2015 with a new time of 42.29 seconds.
On the women's side Taylor Driggers (Lisbon, Conn.) picked-up a first place finish in the triple jump with a huge leap of 35-10.50 feet, defeating her closest competitor by 1.5 feet. The women's 4x100 meter relay also picked-up a first place like their male counterparts. The team of Lexy Bean (Danvers, Mass.), Wadie Jonathas (Gonaives, Haiti), Ashley Hernandez (Miami, Fla.), and Driggers secured a final time of 50.02 seconds.
Jonathas also picked-up a second place finish in the high jump with a final height of 4-11.75 feet. For the men's team, Nda collected a third place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.80 seconds. In the 400-meter hurdles, Adrian Higgins (Milton, Mass.) tripped the sensor with a time of 1:00.99 to earn a sixth place finish, while in the long jump Christopher Fleurima (Port-a-Prince, Haiti) finished fourth with a final distance of 20-03.00 feet.
Hirtle would also take third in the shot put with a throw of 44-06.00, while Jason Bigler (Tyngsborough, Mass.) finished in third place as well in the discus throw with a toss of 129-00 feet. Sprinter Olivia Burnes (Paxton, Mass.), posted a ninth place finish in the 100-meter dash with her time of 13.29 seconds.
The track and field team returns to action next Saturday when they compete at the Tufts University Snowflake Classic.
