Men's Tennis To Take On Stevens Institute of Technology In NCAA First Round Matchup

BOSTON, Mass.—UMass Boston men's tennis will face off against Stevens Institute of Technology on Friday in the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament.

The Little East Conference Tournament Champions will be traveling to host Amherst College for the weekend, with the Beacons and Ducks facing off in a first-round matchup. The winner of Friday's match will take on the University of Mary Washington. On the other side of the bracket, Nichols College and Wilkes University will play in the first round, with the winner taking on host Amherst College.

The start time for Friday's match will be dependent on the weather. If the match stays outdoors, the Beacons and Ducks will be the first match of the day at Noon. If poor weather forces the match indoors, the two teams will play indoors at 10 a.m.

UMass Boston will be making their third NCAA Tournament appearance in program history this week. The Beacons fell 5-2 to Skidmore College in 2013, before dropping a 5-1 decision to Nichols College in 2017.

Sophomore Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.), junior Onkgopotse Mokoka (Pretoria, South Africa) and seniors Ray Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) and Tin Tran (Saigon, Vietnam) will all be making their second NCAA Tournament appearances, after appearing in the match against Nichols College.
