PAWTUCKET, R.I.—For the second-consecutive week, UMass Boston men's tennis freshman Nandish Shah (Ahmedabad, India) was named the Little East Conference Men's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Shah went 4-1 on the week, including 3-0 in two conference matches, to help the Beacons go 2-1 overall. The freshman finished a perfect 2-0 at number one singles and 2-1 at number one doubles.
He opened the week with a huge 2-0 performance against 2018 Little East Conference Tournament Champions Salem State University. Shah teamed up with Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) for an 8-4 win at number one doubles, before defeating 2018 LEC Player and Rookie of the Year Andrew Muttiah 6-1, 6-2 at number one singles.
Shah and Comerchero added an 8-0 win at number one doubles on Saturday, as part of the Beacons 9-0 sweep over Castleton University.
On Sunday, Shah earned the Beacons' lone point in a 6-1 loss to Division II Saint Michael's College. Shah defeated Dan Foley 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 at number one singles in his first career three-set singles win.
UMass Boston will close out their four-match road trip with a visit to Curry College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
