NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Senior Sean Cullen (Medway, Mass.) has been named Little East Conference Player of the Week for his undefeated weekend, the league office announced Monday morning.
After not playing in the Beacons first four matches of the spring, Cullen made a huge splash, posting a 1-0 mark at top-flight singles to help UMass Boston earn a 7-2 victory over Southern Maine Saturday, in both team's LEC opener.
The 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Year recorded a 6-4, 6-1 win over his previously unbeaten opponent. Cullen also teamed up with David Hernandez (Bogota, Colombia) for an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles. The wins bumped his record to 2-0 in singles and doubles.
Cullen's award also marks the first time this year that a non-Bridgewater State University player has won a weekly award from the LEC for Men's Tennis.
