DeSouza and Murakami Collect First LEC Weekly Honors

PAWTUCKET, R.I.—After leading their team to a pair of dominant conference victories, UMass Boston junior Raffi DeSouza (Watertown, Mass.) and senior Eric Murakami (São Paulo, Brazil) were named Little East Conference Player and Defender of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

The duo combined to score four goals and added three assists in wins over Castleton University (5-0) and UMass Dartmouth (4-0).

DeSouza recorded the first six points of his season this week, to earn his first career LEC Player of the Week honors. On Wednesday against the Spartans, DeSouza assisted on the Beacons' first two goals, before scoring the first goal of his season.

He tacked on the Beacons' second goal in Saturday's win over UMass Dartmouth. DeSouza leads the Beacons with 29 shots, is tied for the team lead with 11 shots on goal and sits third on the team in goals and points.

Murakami earned his first career LEC Defender of the Week honors after recording two goals and an assist. He scored a free kick goal on Wednesday against the Spartans, before recording the game-winning goal and adding an assist against UMass Dartmouth.

On the defensive side of the ball, Murakami and the Beacons' back line limited opponents to just 13 shots, three shots on goal and zero goals over 180 minutes.

UMass Boston will return to action on Wednesday night at 7 p.m., when they host Salem State University.
