Men's Soccer Duo Earn LEC Weekly Honors

PAWTUCKET, R.I.—After leading UMass Boston men's soccer to their best week of the season, junior goalie Omar Castro-Dreher (Woonsocket, R.I.) and sophomore center back Yuran Teixeira were named the Little East Conference Goalie and Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. 

The duo helped UMass Boston to a 1-0-1 week, including earning a 1-1 double overtime against defending LEC Champions Western Connecticut State University in their LEC opener. 

Castro-Dreher earns his third LEC Goalie of the Week honors, after stopping 10 of 11 shots over 200 total minutes. He made two saves in a shutout win over Worcester State University. on Wednesday. Against the Colonials, he stopped eight of nine shots, including making four saves in overtime. 

His shutout against Worcester State moved him into a tie for first-place in program history with 13 career shutouts. Castro-Dreher leads the Little East Conference with his 40 saves on the season. 

Teixeira collects his first career Defensive Player of the Week honors after a big week on both sides of the ball. He helped anchor a Beacons defense that posted a 0.45 goals against average and limited opponents to just 14 shots in regulation. 

He also made a splash offensively, as he recorded the game-winning goal in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Worcester State. With the game tied in the 86th minute, Teixeira stepped up to the penalty spot and calmly drilled a perfect penalty shot to lift the Beacons to victory. 

UMass Boston men's soccer returns home on Wednesday, when they take on Castleton University at 7 p.m. in their LEC home opener.
