BOSTON, Mass. – For only the second time in program history a Beacons pitcher has earned a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) weekly honor, with freshman pitcher Dylan Fashempour (Redlands, Calif.) earning Rookie of the Week accolades.
The righty, became the first player in UMass Boston history to earn the top Rookie of the Week honor. The only other player in UMB history to earn the national weekly honor was Kyle Szatrowski, who was named Pitcher of the Week, after recording the program's first no-hitter.
On Monday, Fashempour earned his first LEC Rookie of the Week honor, after leading UMB to a huge conference win over the third-ranked Huskies of the University of Southern Maine. In that win, he recorded seven strikeouts, while on Saturday he picked-up on more strikeout in 1 1/3 scoreless innings against Eastern Connecticut State University. On the week, Fashempour finished with a 2-0 record.
Earning Player of the Week honors was Christian Jones from the Catholic University of America, while New England College's Shayne Audet earned Pitcher of the Week honors.
