John Pagliarulo was named the Director of Intramurals and Recreation at UMass Boston in August of 2015.
As the director, Pagliarulo will be responsible for promoting and advancing all facets of the intramural, recreation, and aquatics programs on the harbor campus. Over the last five years, intramurals and recreation programs have seen tremendous growth, and Pagliarulo will be tasked to continue that trend as the university continues its unprecedented growth.
A veteran of collegiate recreation programs, Pagliarulo comes to UMass Boston after a 12-year career at Division I Boston College, where he served as Associate Director of Athletics for Campus Recreation. During his time on the Chestnut Hill campus, Pagliarulo oversaw all aspects of BC’s recreation department. He developed, analyzed, controlled, and monitored an operating budget of over two million dollars. He oversaw all capital improvement projects, and implemented goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for campus recreation.
From 1991-2000, Pagliarulo served as the Aquatics Manager at BC, and was responsible for overseeing a large student and part-time staff. While serving as the manager, he was responsible for maintaining all aspects of the facility, as well as developing new and innovative programs.
For the past two years, Pagliarulo has worked in Boston Public School system, and has worked in a variety of capacities.
A graduate of Boston College, Pagliarulo earned his bachelor’s degree in Marketing in 1991. He then earned his master’s degree in in Business Administration in 2001 from BC.
