FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Beacons cross country teams started their 2017 season at the Fitchburg State University Jim Sheehan Alumni Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Men – 5th out of 6 teams
Women – 5th out of 5 teams
HOW IT HAPPENED
On the men's side, freshman James Cannon produced the best finish of any Beacon runner as he crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 27:43. For the women's team, Adrianna Fredo started her senior season with a time of 24:30 which earned her 36th place overall.
Prosper Lubega, Cameron Ford, and William Barrett each finished in the top -20 with times of 29:22, 29:26, and 29:29 respectively. John Bushway crossed the finish line right behind his three teammates as he finished in 21st place with a time of 29:49.
Making her collegiate cross country debut was the fastest sprinter in Division III history in Wadeline Jonathas as she crossed the finish line with a time of 26:00. Chantel Clerveauz and Carli Hancock finished right behind Jonathas with their times of 26:01 and 26:12 respectively.
Sha Anwar, Jack Davis, and Adrian Higgins closed out the meet for the men's side, while Caroline Mullen and Faye Martin completed their first meet of the 2017 campaign.
The Beacons will compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Invitational on September 16 at 10 a.m.
