HANNEMAN NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE VOLLEYBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK FOR FIFTH TIME

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's volleyball player Cassy Hanneman (Denver, CO) has been named Little East Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the third straight week and for a league-high fifth time this season. She earns the award for the week of October 27 to November 2 after being selected for the weeks of September 22-28, September 29 to October 5, October 13-19 and October 20-26, it was announced today by the conference.
Hanneman captures the honor in the last week of the regular season after averaging 9.18 assists, 1.00 kills, 0.36 aces, 2.00 digs and 0.55 total blocks per set in 11 sets over three matches on the week. The freshman set for at least 30 assists in every match and owned an impressive .450 hitting percentage to go with at least one service ace in all three matches. She spiked a career-high six kills, while hitting a blistering .857 hitting mark in a five-set match at Emerson College on October 28 and added 39 assists, including a helper that broke the single-season school record for assists. The rookie also added seven digs, two block assists and an ace. Hanneman continued her outstanding play in a conference tri-match with 30 assists at Rhode Island College on November 1 in addition to four digs, two aces and a kill and dished out 32 assists vs. Western Connecticut State University to go with four kills, an ace, 11 digs and a career-high four assisted blocks.
The 5'9" setter has quickly established herself as one of the best setters in the Little East Conference, averaging 9.01 assists per set for the season to rank third among league leaders, while leading the league with 0.54 aces per set as one of the team's most reliable servers. Her assist total of 946 is the single-season school record at UMass Boston and she is closing in on the single-season top 10 list for service aces. She has served up at least one ace in 25 of 31 matches and multiple aces in 16 contests. A graduate of Arapahoe High School, she fired at least one ace in 10 straight matches from September 27 to October 21. She has not only directed the team's offense, but has also proven to be one of the team's best all-around players, averaging 1.90 digs and 0.26 total blocks per set to rank third on the team in both categories. Hanneman is the only player on the squad to play in all 105 sets on the campaign, which ties her for eighth on the UMB single-season list. She has set for at least 20 assists in all but one match, including 17 occasions with 30 or more. She was also named the Most Valuable Player for the Salem State College Invitational on October 4 and was selected to the Virginia Wesleyan Wingate Innvitational and the Plymouth State Days Inn of Campton All-Tournament teams earlier in the season.
The Beacons are currently 23-8 on the season to establish a new school-record for victories and have won 16 of their last 18 matches. UMass Boston finished the conference slate with a 5-1 mark to secure the second seed in the LEC tournament and will host seventh-seeded Rhode Island College on Tuesday, November 4 at 6:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals at the Clark Athletic Center.
