NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's volleyball player Corrine Porter (Huntington Beach, CA) has been named the Little East Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week for her play during the week of October 3-9, it was announced today by the conference. The award marks the 19th time in the last three seasons that a UMB volleyball player has earned the honor and the seventh time during the 2010 season. Porter also won the award for her play during the week of August 30 to September 5, September 19-25, September 26 to October 2, October 3-9 as well as the week of October 10-16.

Over five matches, Porter recorded a total of 54 kills and 52 digs to help UMass Boston clinch the \#1 seed in the Little East Conference Championship. The Huntington Beach, CA native turned in a huge performance against both Plymouth State and Keene State, coming just one dig shy of registering a double-double in each match. Against the Panthers, Porter produced an 11 kill effort to go along with nine digs. She smashed down a match-high 12 kills, while also recording nine digs, two aces and a solo block in the win over the Owls. Over the weekend at the Judges Classic, the freshman averaged 2.58 kills and 2.58 digs per set over three matches.

On the season, the outside hitter ranks second the Beacons with 45 aces, ranking eighth overall in the LEC with 0.45 aces per set. She is averaging 2.84 kills per set, ranking second on the team to go along with an average of 2.99 digs per set to rank second on the squad and ranks eighth in both categories in the LEC. The rookie has started all 29 matches for UMass Boston, playing in 101 out of 102 sets.

The Beacons, who received 30 votes in the most recent Division III American Volleyball Coaches Association national poll, completed the regular season with a 25-4 overall record. For the second consecutive year they finished conference play with an unblemished, 7-0 mark and will host the 2010 Little East Conference tournament quarterfinals and final. UMass Boston will play in the quarterfinals on Friday, November 5 at 6:00 p.m. vs. the winner of the \#5 UMass Dartmouth vs. \#4 Western Connecticut State match taking place on Tuesday, November 2 at Western Connecticut State University
