UMASS BOSTON'S RATTIGAN NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's volleyball player Molly Rattigan (Dorchester, MA) has been named Little East Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for her play during the week of September 8-14, it was announced today by the conference.

Rattigan has been showing improvement in each match of her young career, registering 14 total blocks in 17 sets over five matches for an average of 0.82 blocks per set. The freshman got up for five solos and nine assisted blocks, while also scooping up 11 digs. She chipped in on the offensive end as well with 1.18 kills per set and owned a .196 hitting percentage to go with a service ace to give her 1.79 points per set. The middle hitter recorded at least two or more blocks in all five matches on the week, including four contests with four total blocks, while collecting three or more digs in three outings. The rookie spiked a season-high seven kills in the Beacons' 3-0 win over Mount Ida College on September 12 at the Plymouth State College Days Inn of Campton Tournament.

The Fontbonne Academy product is one of just three players on the team to play in all 34 sets on the season and start all 10 matches. She leads the squad with 26 total blocks for an average of 0.76 per set and has registered at least one block in every match and multiple blocks in nine contests. The first-year player also stands fourth on the team with 1.00 kills per set to go with a .170 hitting percentage to rank third on the team.

UMass Boston is currently 6-4 on the season after finishing as the runner-up at the Days Inn of Campton tournament and has won six of its last eight matches. The Beacons will be in action again on Thursday, September 18 when they host Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center.
