Framingham, MA – The Framingham State College volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-10, 25-13, 20-25, 25-17) decision at home tonight to visiting University of Massachusetts Boston.  With the win, the Beacons have now won seven straight matches and nine of 10 to improve to 16-7 on the season, while the Rams fall to 9-11.  The third set win by Framingham snapped a streak of 20 straight sets won by UMB.


The Beacons won the first two sets easily 25-10 and 25-13 before the Rams rallied and took a hard fought third set 25-20.  UMass Boston took the fourth set 25-17 to pick up the win.


The UMass Boston attack was led by junior outside hitter Kate McWhorter (Bakersfield, CA), who smashed a career-high 25 kills on a punishing .524 hitting percentage to go with three digs and a block.  Freshman middle hitter Molly Rattigan (Dorchester, MA) served eight straight points to open the match and set the tone for the night for the Beacons.  She finished the night with seven kills, three blocks, two digs, a service ace and a .545 hitting mark.  Freshman setter Cassy Hanneman (Denver, CO) registered 41 assists to go with a match-high four aces and added seven digs.  Junior libero Megan MacAuley (Upland, CA) led the defense with 19 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Maria Della Croce (Quincy, MA) came up with a career-high 13 digs. 


The Rams were led by freshman outside hitter Meagan Malloy (Milford, MA) who had a team high 10 kills and 5 digs.  Sophomore Ashley Trudeau (Rockland, MA) chipped in 9 kills and 16 digs, while fellow sophomore Jessi Goode (Marston Mills, MA) added 11 digs.


Both teams return to action on Thursday night as the Rams host Western New England at 7 p.m. and UMass Boston travels to Roger Williams at 7p.m.
