Hawks Fly Past Volleyball In Non-Conference Match

BRISTOL, R.I. – Despite a double-double of 18 kills and 23 digs from Eileen Shi (San Francisco, Calif.) volleyball was handed a tough 3-1 non-conference loss by Roger Williams University Friday afternoon at The Recreation Center Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After rallying late in the first set to earn a 25-22 victory over the host Hawks, the Beacons were handed three straight losses all by no more than three points.  RWU evened the score at 1-1 with a 25-23 win in the second.  They then took a 25-22 victory in the third, before sealing the win in the fourth with a 25-23 decision.

Shi's huge night got off to a strong start in the first frame as she put down eight of her 18 kills.  The junior All-American also collected six digs in the first set victory.  Also having a strong showing in Friday's loss was Emilia Czapiewska (Saint Paul, Minn.) who had 11 kills, while also hitting .286.

Rachel Maslach (Berlin Center, Ohio) finished third on the team with nine kills, and also tallied 26 assists.  Macayla Chianco (Clearwater, Fla.) posted 20 digs in the tough loss, while Sarah Doyle (Glendale, Calif.) finished with a combined five blocks.
