BOSTON, Mass. - A total team effort would carry volleyball to their fourth straight Little East Conference win as they defeated the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth by the final of 3-0 Tuesday evening in the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.
With the win the Beacons push their overall record back to .500 as they stand at 12-12, but most importantly they improved to 4-0 in the conference to remain as one of the top teams in the Little East. UMass Dartmouth fell to 6-14 on the season and 1-4 in the conference following the decision.
UMB made quick work of the Corsairs in all three games defeating them by the finals of 25-12, 25-12, and 25-14.
As a team the Beacons hit a combined .324 scoring 33 kills on 74 attempts. Bri Sousa (Swansea, Mass.) had a solid showing scoring seven kills on 12 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. The Little East Conference Player of the Week, Megan Pollock (Wilton, Calif.) fueled the offense with 18 assists and also had four aces.
Freshman Pepper Baker (Tallahassee, Fla.) recorded a career best five aces to close out the third game and the match for the Beacons. Defensively UMB saw four players record a team-best seven digs including Corrine Porter (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Amber Clemons (Simi Valley, Calif.), Christine DuPuis (Minden, Nev.), and Baker.
Freshman hitter Julia Murphy notched a pair of solo blocks, while Sousa tallied three block assists, followed by Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, Mass.) with two, and Jodie Munchbach (Dedham, Mass.) with one.
For the Corsairs Eliza Bowes finished with five kills along with Kelly Lyons. Setter Christina Spinazola tallied 13 assists, and had a pair of aces. Brianna Perry came-up with 10 digs, followed by Spinazola who had seven on the night.
Volleyball returns to action this Friday when they face Rivier University at 7 p.m. at the MIT Invitational in Cambridge.
