Thompson Named ECAC New England Offensive Player of the Year
CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Senior outside hitter Shannon Thompson (Moorpark, Calif.) added yet another award to her already impressive resume as she was named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Star.
The honor caps off perhaps one of the greatest careers in the history of UMass Boston athletics. Named a three-time AVCA All-American and four-time AVCA All-Region, Thompson closed out her four-seasons at UMB as the program's all-time leader in kills (1,803), digs (1,202), total attacks (3,954), and solo blocks (120). She also holds the single-season record for kills with 494, which she hit in 2010.
UMass Boston's first four-time Little East Conference First Team selection, the senior from Moorpark, California also became the first player in conference history to be named Rookie of the Year and then three-time Offensive Player of the Year. Named a three-time Little East Conference Tournament MVP and two-time NCAA Regional Tournament MVP, Thompson guided the Beacons to four conference regular season and tournament championships.
This past fall, Thompson played a major part in guiding the Beacons back to the national championship tournament after UMB won their second regional crown in the last three seasons.
Late last month, Thompson earned the New England Women's Volleyball Association's Player of the Year honor as well as a sport on the First Team.
