NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Little East Conference office has announced that freshman middle hitter Briana Sousa (Swansea, Mass.) has been named the Volleyball Rookie of the Week for her standout play in the 3-2 win over Wellesley College on Friday.
The weekly honor marks the first in the young career of the Swansea native who set the program record for most block assists with 11 against the regionally ranked Blue. Her strong play proved to be the deciding factor in the Beacons huge non-conference victory over Wellesley, who going into the match was undefeated (14-0) and ranked first in New England. On top of her 11 block assists, Sousa also posted one solo block and finished the contest with five kills. Her strong defensive effort also helped the Beacons tie the program record for most team blocks in a match, as UMB finished 16 total blocks.
