Mike Stein enters his second season as the assistant men’s and women’s track and field coach at UMass Boston.  He will be responsible for working with the Beacons throwers and jumpers.

A former coach at Division I Sacred Heart University, Stein joins the Beacons staff having coached at the high school, collegiate, and select levels.  He has coached a New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) champion and a New York state qualifier in the high jump.  He has worked with multiple athletes who were finalists for the AAIS/NYSAIS championship.

As a collegiate athlete, Stein competed at the Division I level at Colgate University.  Throughout his college career, Stein earned multiple All-East honors in the shot put and was a finalist at a variety of meets, including the IC4A and the Florida Relays. 

During his time as a Raider, he was named a team Captain and still holds the outdoor and indoor program records in the shot put (56-02.25 ft. & 54-10.00 ft.).  Stein still holds claim to the program’s freshman indoor 35-lb weight throw with 44-09.00 feet.

Stein graduated from Colgate in 1971.
