Track & Field Closes Out Regular Season at Sean Collier Invite
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In their final regular season meet of the 2014 outdoor season, track and field competed at the MIT Sean Collier Invitational Saturday afternoon at Steinbrenner Track.
For the women's team Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mas.) posted first place finishes in the 200 and 400 meter dashes with times of 24.83 and 55.80 seconds respectively. Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) sprinted her way to a second place finish in the 200 with a time of 25.51, while in the 100 she recorded a time of 12.70 seconds.
Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.) also had a strong finish in the 200 meter dash as she recorded a time of 25.53 seconds to earn third place. Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a time of 12.88 seconds in the 100 meter dash and 27.61 seconds in the 200.
Later in the day the four sprinters would team-up to earn a first place finish in the 4x100 meter relay with an impressive time of 48.20 seconds. In the throwing events, Taylor Smith (Burlington, Mass.) earned a sixth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 36-06.75 feet. She then finished in third place in the discus throw with a throw of 122-11 feet.
Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, Mass.) recorded a throw of 132-00 feet to shatter her record in the event by more than nine feet. The senior heads into this year's conference championship as one of the top throwers in the Little East Conference.
On the men's side it was Fritz Gustave (Fall River, Mass.) who led the Beacons sprinters in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.30 seconds. Kelly Desane (Cambridge, Mass.) finished right behind him with a time of 11.44 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, Nobert Simon (Chelsea, Mass.) continued his strong outdoor season with a time of 22.69 seconds to earn a top-6 finish. Desane and Gustave both recorded a time of 22.94 at Saturday's invite.
The 4x100 relay team of Desane, Gustave, Simon, and Christopher Sian Aguirre (Holbrook, Mass.) recorded a third place finish with a time of 44.18 seconds. Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) closed out the regular season with a second place finish in the high jump with a leap of 6-08.00 feet.
Simon earned another third place finish, this time in the long jump with a leap of 20-09.75 feet. Sian Aguirre earned an eighth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 19-06.25 feet.
Track and Field returns to action this Saturday when they compete at the Little East Conference/New England Alliance Championship meet hosted by UMass Dartmouth.
