Records Fall at Eastern Connecticut State Invite

MANSFIELD, Conn. – A total of six meet and one program record fell at the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational Friday afternoon.  Eclipsing the program mark in the discus throw was freshman Taylor Smith (Burlington, Mass.), who shattered the record which was set in 1986. 

With her throw of 129-01 feet,  Smith not only broke All-American Debbie D-Etremont's record, but she also set the meet record on her way to a first place finish to lead all throwers.

Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.) claimed the meet record on her way to a new personal best in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.32 seconds.  Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.) posted a second place finish in the 100 and set a new personal best with her time of 12.62 seconds.

Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) claimed another meet record as she crossed the finish line with a time of 25.24 seconds.  The women's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams also set new ECSU meet records.  The 4x1 posted a time of 48.82 seconds, while the 4x4 recorded a time of 4:00.99.

On the men's side Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) earned another first place and set the meet record in the high jump with a leap of 6-08.75 feet.

In the 400 meter dash Ari Leao (New Bedford, Mass.) recorded a new personal best with a time of 1:00.55 to earn second place in the event.  O'Brien notched a new career best in the high jump with a new mark of 5-03.75 feet to earn first place.  McGuffie earned a second place finish in the long jump to help the Beacons earn a fourth place finish overall with her jump of 17-02.75 feet.

After Smith's record setting throw in the discus, Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, Mass.) and Brittany Moore (Billerica, Mass.) each recorded new personal bests with throws of 100-03 and 95-00 feet respectively.  Smith also posted a new career best in the javelin with a throw of 101-00 feet.

On the men's side, Kelly Desane (Cambridge, Mass.) earned a new personal best in the 100 meter dash and took fourth place overall with a time of 11.41 seconds.  Fritz Gustave (Fall River, Mass.) posted a time of 23.17 seconds overall in the 200 meter dash.

In the 400 meter dash Nobert Simon (Chelsea, Mass.) and Patrick Powell (Dorchester, Mass.) posted times of 52.89 and 53.88 seconds respectively.  Powell's time was also a career best.  Tad Delaney (Halifax, Mass.) recorded a new PB in the 800 meter run as he crossed the finish line with a time of 2:11.59.

Xavier Romero (Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded two new personal best the first of which came in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.79 seconds.  He then notched a fourth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 20-05.25 feet. 

The 4x100 meter relay team earned a second place finish with a time of 43.98 seconds.  Tylor Hart (Newton, Mass.) finished in second place in the high jump with a leap of 6-06.75 feet.

Track and Field returns to action next Saturday when they compete at the MIT Invitational.
