Track & Field Has Strong Showings at Roadrunner Invitational
MAHWAH, N.J. – In just their second meet of the 2014 outdoor season men's and women's track and field had perhaps their best showing by far with multiple personal bests falling as well as senior Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, Mass.) setting the program record in the hammer throw at the 5th Annual Ramapo College Roadrunner Invitational.
The senior thrower broke her original mark with a throw of 123-05 to finish in seventh place in the event. Nicole Aube (Westfield, Mass.) finished with a throw of 103-09 feet to start the Beacons off on the right foot at the two-day meet.
Also having a tremendous showing on Saturday was Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.) who won both the 400 and the 200 meter dashes. The sophomore set a new personal best in the 200 with a time of 24.81, while in the 400 she recorded a time of 56.98.
Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) recorded his second straight first place finish in the high jump as he posted a height of 6-06.75 feet. Right behind him was Tylor Hart (Newton, Mass.) in fourth place with a jump of 6-04.75 feet.
Nobert Simon (Chelsea, Mass.) also put together a strong weekend for the Beacons first earning a time of 52.49 in the 400 meter dash. He would later finish in third place in the long jump with a leap of 20-06.25 feet, which was a new personal best. In 200 meter dash he finished with a time of 23.50 seconds.
To start off the day the men's 4x100 meter relay team recorded a time of 45.86 seconds. Anisha Trappier (Taunton, Mass.) earned a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.90 seconds. The sophomore sprinter qualified for the finals after posting a time of 12.81 seconds to finish in the top-8.
Xavier Romero (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Luis Hernandez finished with times of 18.57 and 19.40 seconds respectively in the men's 100 meter hurdles. Fritz Gustave (Fall River, Mass.) led the Beacons in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.56 seconds.
Renee O'Brien (Stoneham, Mass.) posted a time of 1:02.94 seconds in the 400 meter dash, before recording a final time of 26.04 seconds in the 200 meter dash to earn fourth place in the event. Ari Leao (New Bedford, Mass.) crossed the finish line with a new career best time in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:26.37.
In the men's 400 meter hurdles, Romero led four Beacons sprinters with a time of 1:01.27 to earn a new personal best.
The Little East Conference Rookie Field Athlete of the Week, Taylor Smith (Burlington, Mass.) set a new personal best in the javelin throw with an impressive toss of 100-03. Kloczewiak recorded a distance of 69-07 in the javelin, followed by Brittany Moore (Billerica, Mass.) who recorded a throw of 60-02 (personal best).
In the discus Smith posted an eighth place finish in the event with a throw of 102-07 feet. In the final two events of the afternoon, the 4x800 and 4x400 meter relays the Beacons closed out their afternoon on a strong note. The men's team finished in eighth place with a time of 9:10.71 in the 4x8. The women's 4x4 finished in third place with a time of 4:09.59. The men's 4x4 closed out the day with a time of 3:47.67.
Also in action on Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Invitational Ron Esquivel (Guatemala City, Guatemala) recorded a time of 2:18.58 in the 800 meter run. Angelica Pizzi (Milton, Mass.) was also in action at UMass Dartmouth as she recorded a time of 5:18.82 in the 1,500 meter run.
Track and Field returns to action next Friday when they compete at the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational in Mansfield. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
