McGuffie Leads Beacons At NEICAAA Championship
BOSTON, Mass.—Sophomore Hulerie McGuffie's (Lynn, Mass.) program-record setting performance in the 200-meter dash highlighted a quiet weekend for indoor track and field at the NEICAAA Indoor Championship hosted by Boston University.
McGuffie, who was one of a small contingent of Beacons to compete on the weekend, broke her own school record with a time of 25.18 seconds in the 200-meter dash. The mark was .06 seconds better than her previous school record, which McGuffie set on February 7 at the Boston Valentine Invite.
She also had a record-setting performance in the 400-meter dash, as the sophomore set a new personal-best in the event in back-to-back days. McGuffie qualified for the finals with a time of 56.44 seconds, before shaving off three-tenths of a second in Saturday's final, with a time of 56.11. Her time in the finals was good for seventh-place at a meet that included Division I and II athletes.
Junior Tylor Hart (Newton, Mass.) was the lone other Beacon to earn points on the day, as he hit a height of 6 feet, 6 and-a-quarter inches in the high jump. Hart's mark was good for a tie for fourth in the competition.
Shawn Lawson (Westford, Mass.) recorded his second-best finish of the season in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.93 seconds.
UMass Boston will be back in action next Saturday at the ECAC Division III Indoor Championship Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center. Next week's meet is the last chance to qualify for the Division III National Championship Meet (March 14-15).
