NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – For the first time in program history, a member of the women's outdoor track and field team has been recognized as the top rookie in the entire Little East Conference as freshman Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.) was named the 2013 Outdoor Rookie Field Athlete of the Year.
The top rookie field honor marks the second for McGuffie, who was also named the LEC Indoor Rookie Field Athlete of the Year after a standout indoor campaign.
The 2013 Little East Conference/New England Alliance long jump champion (17-06.75 feet), McGuffie was equally impressive on the track as she was in the field events in her rookie season. In total, the Lynn native competed in the long jump event three times in 2013, winning the event twice. Her other victory came at the Bridgewater State University Bears Invitational when she recorded a jump of 17-02.25 feet.
She would notch a second place finish at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Invitational in April with a leap of 15-07.50 feet.
On the track, McGuffie became the first Beacon to earn All-American honors as the freshman sprinter posted a fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash at the Outdoor National Championship meet. She would also help the 4x100 meter relay team qualify for nationals as well.
