NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – After back-to-back weeks program setting performances three members of the UMass Boston men's and women's track and field programs were honored by the Little East Conference. Earning Field Athlete of the Week honors from the men's team was Carl Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) while on the women's team Hulerie McGuffie (Lynn, Mass.) and Nicole Aube (Westfield, Mass.) were named Rookie Field and Field Athletes of the Week respectively.
Joseph notched his first weekly honor of the 2013 outdoor season after leaping his way to a first place finish at the Charlotte 49ers Classic two weeks ago. The sophomore recorded a national leading height of 7-01.00 feet in the high jump to defeat all of his competition, which consisted of high jumpers from Division I, II, and III track and field programs.
McGuffie, fresh of her Indoor Field Rookie of the Year honor, wasted little time in the outdoor season as she set the program mark in the long jump at Saturday's Bridgewater State University Invitational. The Lynn native recorded a distance of 17-02.50 feet to win the event, her first of the year.
For Aube, she shattered a program record which had stood at UMass Boston since 1986. With a throw of 108-06 feet in the hammer, Aube set a new standard in the event on her way to an 18th place finish overall at the Bridgewater State Invitational.
