Track and Field Competes at NCAA New England Regional Meet
BOSTON, Mass. - At the 2012 NCAA Division III New England Regional meet UMass Boston track and field had another strong day of performances as multiple competitors earned top finishes in a variety of events.
For the men's regional meet, which was held at Springfield College, Kebba Nasso (Attleboro, Mass.) sprinted his way to a second place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.45 seconds. He finished just 38 hundredths of a second behind the first place finisher from Amherst College.
Henry Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) recorded a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash with his time of 23.25 seconds after posting a qualifying time of 23.19 seconds. He also posted a time of 9.89 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles which earned him 22nd place overall. Jake Kerin (Quincy, Mass.) followed-up that performance with a top-15 time in the 800 meter run with his time of 1:59.52. Xhulio Uruci earned a 17th place finish in the 1 mile run with a time of 4:27.30.
In the distance medley relay the Beacons posted a combined time of 10:57.61 to finish in 11th place. Competing in the event was Kerin, Nasso, Hamza Abdul (Chelsea, Mass.), Uruci, Andre Malcolm (Cambridge, Mass.), and Norbert Simon (Chelsea, Mass.).
In the high jump it was Ervin Lofton who led UMass Boston with a height of 6-02.50 feet which earned him a third place finish. Tylor Hart also competed in the event and finished in 11th place with his jump of 6-02.50 feet.
At the women's regional meet which was held at Smith College, Samara Faustin led the Beacons in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.21 seconds (20th). She also competed in the 200 meter dash along with Ari Leao. Faustin crossed the finish line in 14th place with a time of 26.91 seconds, while Leao posted a time of 28.01 seconds which earned her 23rd place.
Leao then took 18th place in the 400 meter dash with her time of 1:03.47.
Track and Field will continue their championship meet as they prepare for the ECAC New England Championship which is scheduled for March 2 and 3 at the New York Armory in New York, N.Y.
