Johnson & Wales Takes Down Women's Tennis In Home Opener

BOSTON, Mass.—Johnson & Wales University (3-0) handed UMass Boston (1-2) a defeat in the Beacons home opener, as the Wildcats took a 9-0 victory at the Boston College High School Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon.

Senior Wendy Steinman (Dudley, Mass.) proved to the most competitive Beacon in her season debut, as she fell 6-3, 7-5 in number three singles. Earlier in number two doubles, Steinman and Imani Williams (Roxbury, Mass.) fell by an 8-4 score. 

Sophomore Shihyu Yang (Taipei, Taiwan) and Solveig Castelli (Precojo, France) made their debuts in Beacons Blue as the number three doubles team. The pair dropped the match to Darcy Predieri and Stephanie Piperis by an 8-2 score.

The Wildcats swept the rest of the action by a wide margin as they improved to 3-0.

UMass Boston will be back out on the courts Saturday at Rhode Island College for their Little East Conference season opener at 1:00 p.m.
