Maria Nasta returned to her alma mater in 2014 for her first season as an assistant coach.
One of the most decorated two-sport athletes in UMass Boston history, Nasta finished her career amongst the top 10 softball players in program history in nearly a dozen categories. After wrapping up her final season in 2012, Nasta held the career program marks for runs (94), runs batted in (87), total bases (206) and still holds the UMass Boston mark for career sacrifice flies (10).
In addition to helping the softball team reach the Little East Conference Tournament in back-to-back years for the first time in school history, she also was a standout ice hockey player. She finished her career with the Beacons third in program history with 118 career points in 79 contests.
Since graduating in December of 2012, Nasta has worked with the Boston Shamrock Hockey Club as a coach and director or hockey operations. In her time with the Shamrocks, she has served as the head coach of the U16/U19 Select teams, while working as a mentor with all 125 members of the club.
