PAWTUCKET, R.I.—After the best statistical week of her stellar freshman season, freshman Jess Greenspan (Rocky Hill, Conn.) was named the Little East Conference Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Monday marked the first time Greenspan had earned both awards in the same week and the second time this season she had earned each award.
Greenspan allowed just one earned run in 16 innings (0.54 earned run average) and pitched all but one inning in UMass Boston's Little East Conference sweep of UMass Dartmouth.
In three appearances, Greenspan went 2-0 with 11 strikeouts and allowed three runs, one earned, 15 hits and one walk.
She opened the week with three innings of one-hit relief, in a 3-0 non-conference loss to Babson College.
On Saturday she dominated UMass Dartmouth in a huge conference doubleheader. She allowed just 14 hits and one earned run on the day and pitched a three-hit shutout in game number two.
The shutout marked the first of her collegiate career, as she limited the Corsairs to three hits and one walk in six innings of work.
UMass Boston will play three doubleheaders this week, starting with a home conference doubleheader on Tuesday against Keene State College at 3:30 p.m.
