Box Score

Plymouth, New Hampshire – Despite outshooting their opponent 28-11, women’s soccer (12-6-1, 3-3-1 LEC) can walk away from Friday’s Little East Conference 0-0 draw with Plymouth State University (5-10-1, 2-4-1 LEC) with something to be excited about.  With the tie, the Beacons closed out their conference schedule as the fourth-seed, and will host a first-round Little East Conference tournament game next Tuesday.

As the fourth-seed, the Beacons will host the fifth-seed Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth as part of the six-team single elimination tournament, which kicks-off next Tuesday.  Plymouth State has also secured a trip to this year’s playoffs as the sixth-seed.  The Panthers will travel to either Eastern or Western Connecticut State University.  The final tournament standings will be decided tomorrow afternoon with the remainder of the conference closing out their regular season schedule.

In Friday’s match, the Beacons tried everything they could to break the scoreless draw, but no matter who shot the ball it just would not cross the goal line.  Of the 28 shots taken by UMass, 19 of those were on goal and were collected by Plymouth State goalkeeper Angelina LaBroad.  Freshman Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) led the Beacons offense with 10 shots in the match.

Senior Kristin Mulry (Holbrook, Mass.) also had her chances as she closed out her final regular season conference match with four shots on goal.  Two of her chances came in the opening minutes of the second overtime, and nearly gave UMass the huge conference win.

The Beacons defense also did their part in Friday’s match as they allowed only four shots in the first half, three in the second, and two in each overtime period.  Of those 11 chances, only five ended up on goal, where they were met by freshman goalkeeper Dani Perkins (Murrieta, Cali.)

With Friday’s decision, Perkins now holds the program record for career and single-season shutouts, with nine.

A start time for next Tuesday’s Little East Conference tournament match will be announced this weekend.  For more information as well as the tournament bracket go to www.littleeast.com.
