NEWPORT, Rhode Island – With less than six minutes left in regulation, women’s soccer (8-4) managed to unload three goals in a two minute window to walk away with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Salve Regina University (9-3) Wednesday afternoon at Gaudet Field.
Senior Kristin Mulry (Holbrook, MA) broke the scoreless draw at 84:26 off of a Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, MA) pass. Less than a 1:30 later (85:32), the Beacons made it a two goal game after Brie Cavanaugh (Belchertown, MA) drove home her second goal of the year. Scoring the game-clincher less than 48 seconds (86:20) later was Julienne McCuish (Mashpee, MA).
Picking-up her second assist of the year on Cavanaugh’s goal was Molly Kuchar (Asheville, NC). Brittney Spencer (West Brookfield, MA) notched her first of the season on McCuish’s goal. Now at the midway point of the 2011 season, the Beacons have outscored their opponents 28-9, and currently hold a 24-5 advantage in assists and an 80-15 advantage in total points.

Ledin led the team with seven shots, before assisting Mulry on her game-winner. Both teams tallied six corner kicks, with UMass recording five of theirs in the second half.
Defensively, the Beacons notched their sixth shutout of the year, after holding Salve Regina to a mere four shots on goal, all of which were collected by freshman goalkeeper Dani Perkins (Murrieta, CA).
Salve Regina goalkeeper Jessica Lane had a very busy afternoon as she combined for 11 of the team’s 12 saves. Kaitlyn Birrell led the offense with five shots, one on goal.
