NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's soccer player Anna O'Donoghue (Swansea, MA) has been named Little East Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for her play during the week of September 14-20, it was announced today by the conference office.
O'Donoghue netted a goal in two matches on the week for the Beacons for two points, while contributing to a defense that allowed just two goals in 180 minutes of action. The freshman defender netted her first collegiate goal on a shot from the 18-yard marker in UMass Boston's 9-0 victory over Wheelock College on September 15. She contributed to a backfield that allowed just one shot by Wheelock that afternoon and helped the Beacons' defense stand strong again on September 19, holding Little East Conference foe University of Southern Maine to just two goals on seven shots in a 3-2 win.
For the season, O'Donoghue is one of just two UMass Boston defenders to net a goal on the season. The Case High School product has started all five matches in her first season of collegiate soccer, while helping the Beacons defense' to a 1.20 team goals against average, which ranks third in the LEC.
UMass Boston is currently 3-2-0 on the season, including 1-0-0 in Little East Conference play and will be in action again on Tuesday, September 22 when it travels to Fitchburg, MA to take on Fitchburg State College at 7:00 p.m.
