NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston women's soccer player Tayla Andrews (Plymouth, MA) has been named Little East Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for her play during the week of August 30 to September 5, it was announced today by the conference office. The award marks the eighth time in the past three seasons that a UMB player has earned the honor.
Andrews made quite a debut for the Beacons in their only match of the week, netting a pair of goals including the game-winner just 1:33 into the second overtime in a 3-2 road victory over Western New England College on September 1. The freshman forward's first collegiate marker gave UMass Boston a 2-1 lead at the 60:55 mark of the second half. The Plymouth South High School product became the first player in school history to net a pair of goals in her collegiate debut since Katherine Olsen also netted a pair on September 7, 2004.
The Beacons are currently 1-0 on the season and will be in action again today when they host Eastern Nazarene College at 3:30 p.m. in their home opener at the Clark Athletic Center.
