LEICESTER, MA - Junior goalkeeper Michelle Cain (Essex, MA) stopped all four shots she faced to register her first career shutout and lead the University of Massachusetts Boston women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over host Becker College today in Worcester, MA. The Beacons increase their school-record win streak to six straight matches to improve to 7-2-0 on the season, while the Hawks fall to 5-3-0.
UMass Boston netted all three of its goals in the second half and broke into the scoring column when sophomore midfielder Molly Kuchar (Ashville, NC) netted her second goal of the season on a direct kick at 58:26. The Beacons took a 2-0 margin when Becker netted an own goal just 57 seconds later. Junior forward Tina Gillen (Carver, MA) gave UMass Boston an insurance marker when she scored her third goal of the season on a low liner off a corner kick at the 71:10 mark for a 3-0 advantage.
UMass Boston owned a 19-4 shot advantage as Cain improved her record to 4-0-0 for the Beacons. Senior keeper Shannon Tibbetts (Warren, MA) made four saves on the afternoon for Becker.
UMass Boston will be in action again when it travels to Willimantic, CT on Saturday, October 3 to take on Little East Conference foe Eastern Connecticut State University at 4:00 p.m.
