BOSTON, MA - Junior goalkeeper Caitlin Hogan (Prospect, CT) stopped nine shots to earn her second shutout of the season and lead the Saint Joseph College (CT) women's soccer team over host University of Massachusetts Boston, 2-0, this afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center Field on the campus of UMass Boston. The Beacons fall to 1-4-0 on the season, while the Blue Jays improve to 3-2-0
Saint Joseph got on the board when sophomore forward Eva Peart (Bloomfield, CT) sent a drop pass inside the 18-yard marker to classmate Paige Briglia (Watertown, CT), who converted on a one-timer into the upper left corner of the net at 21:34 for a 1-0 lead.
The Blue Jays increased their margin to 2-0 with just 4:24 left in the match when senior midfielder Emily Johnson (Avon, CT) dribbled through the backline and lofted a shot from 24 yards out that sailed just over the reach of the UMB keeper.
Sophomore goalie Ashley McRoberts (Merrimack, NH) turned away seven shots for the Beacons.
UMass Boston will be in action again on Saturday, September 20 when it travels to Providence, RI to take on Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College at 1:00 p.m., while Saint Joseph hosts Johnson & Wales University on September 17 at 4:00 p.m.
