KEENE, N.H. – A late goal by Keene State's Gretchen Greene proved to be the deciding marker as the Owls of Keene State College snuck past women's soccer by the final of 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Owl Athletic Complex in the Little East Conference opener for both teams.
UMass Boston 0, Keene State College 1
UMass Boston (0-5, 0-1 Little East Conference)
Keene State College (4-1, 1-0 Little East Conference)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite the stellar play from sophomore goalkeeper Gigi Braga (Medford, Mass.) the Owls were able to score the game-winner as Greene blasted the ball from 22 yards out. The senior's shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced just over the line, just as Braga tried to smack the ball of the goal. Braga's first collegiate start in goal was solid from start to finish for the Medford native as she registered eight stops, including six in the second half.
The Beacons offense managed just one shot in the conference loss, while the Owls tallied a combined 23. The Owls also registered five corner kicks, while UMB recorded three, all coming in the first 45 minutes of action.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Saturday's loss marked just the second for the Beacons since the 2011 season.
