BOSTON, Mass.—For the first time in program history, UMass Boston (14-1) broke into the top 25 of the national rankings in the D3soccer.com National Poll released Tuesday morning.
The Beacons moved up to number 23 in the rankings, behind a 2-0 week that included their first ever victory over Little East Conference power Eastern Connecticut State University. UMB also moved up in the NSCAA New England Regional rankings as well, as they are now currently ranked 9th in the region.
UMass Boston is riding a six-game winning streak after Monday's comeback 3-2 overtime victory over Salve Regina. With the win, the Beacons tied the program mark for most wins in a single season, as they matched the 2009, 2010 and 2011 squads.
Amy Zombeck's crew opened the season with an 8-0 run and won six in a row after falling 5-4 at Wheaton College (Mass.) on September 25. The Lyons are currently one of nine unbeaten teams and are ranked 12th in the country.
The Beacons finish up their regular season slate with Little East Conference contests against Western Connecticut State University (Oct. 22) and Plymouth State University (Oct. 27) and a non-conference road tilt against Framingham State University (Oct. 25).
