CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has named freshman forward Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, Mass.) 2011 New England Region Rookie of the Year, and senior defender Samantha Place (Newton, N.J.) a Second Team All-Star.
For Ledin, her rookie of the year honor -- second of the season -- capped off a standout freshman campaign, which saw the Bridgewater native set a new program record for most goals in a season with 23, as well as leading the Little East Conference in goals scored and total points with 50 (23g, 4a). A Little East Conference First Team selection, Ledin was ranked tied for 20th in the country in goals per game (1.000) and 39th in points per game (2.17).
Place capped off her collegiate career as the go-to defender for UMass Boston, which advanced to both the semi-final round of the Little East and ECAC New England tournament. Place was the foundation to the Beacons defensive third that set a new program record for most shutouts in a season with 12. One of only two players to be named a four-time all-conference honoree, Place also became the first player in program history to earn three major regional awards this season having been named a NEWISA and NSCAA honoree. Place was also selected to the NEWISA Senior Bowl Game as well.
