CENTERVILLE, Mass.—Sophomore forward Samantha Fallon (Pembroke, Mass.) became the first UMass Boston women's hockey player to be named the ECAC East Player of the Week in over three years Monday, when the league office announced the weekly awards.
Fallon is the first Beacon since Rachel Sousa ('11) on January 9, 2010 to be named the Player of the Week in the 12-team league. The sophomore forward scored four goals over two games to lead UMass Boston to a 1-0-1 weekend.
She opened the weekend with the first hat trick of her career, as she scored three goals within 11 minutes and 25 seconds of each other in the second period of a 5-2 win over Nichols College. Fallon's hat trick was the first for a Beacon since February 27, 2010 when Maria Nasta ('13) scored three goals against the University of Southern Maine.
Saturday she scored the game-tying goal late in the second period to help UMass Boston earn a 1-1 road tie at Manhattanville College.
With her four goals on the weekend, Fallon leads the Beacons with 13 goals and 16 points and sits second in the ECAC East, behind only reigning ECAC East Player of the Year Tori Charron, in both total goals and goals per game (.62).
