MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Three different players would find the back of the net to lead Salve Regina University past women's ice hockey by the final of 4-1 in an ECAC East conference game Saturday evening at St. George's Ice Rink.
With the loss the Beacons fell to 1-5-1 overall, 1-4-0 in the ECAC East. Salve Regina improved to 3-3-0, 2-3-0 in the conference.
Leading Salve to the conference win was Danielle Phalon, who had two of her team's four goals. Sarah Markey and Amanda Cronin each found the back of the net in the final two minutes of the first period to take a 2-0 lead over the Beacons.
Cutting into Salve Regina's two goal lead midway through the second period was Samantha Fallon (Pembroke, Mass.) after driving homing a pass from Katie Loiselle (Glocester, R.I.). Unfortunately, Fallon's goal would last only 40 seconds as Phalon pushed Salve's lead back to two goals.
She would then secure the victory midway through third with Michelle Holmes and Shannon Coleman each getting credit for the score. Holmes would also assist on Phalon's first goal of the game.
Fallon's goal marked the third of the year for the sophomore, who now leads the team in points and goals scored. Loiselle is now tied for first in assists with two and is tied with Fallon in points with three following the weekend.
Between the pipes Moe Bradley (Swampscott, Mass.) combined for 20 stops and was handed just her first loss of the year. Salve Regina's Colleen Marcik made a total of 16 saves to earn her third win of the year. On the power-play, the Beacons were 0-for-2, while Salve went 0-for-3.
Women's Hockey returns to action on Tuesday when they host Bowdoin College at 7 p.m.
