PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Six minutes after Plymouth State recorded the night's first goal, Courtney White (Medford, Mass.) evened the score at 1-1, forcing what would become an ECAC East conference draw between the Beacons and the Panthers Friday evening at Hanaway Rink.
White's game-tying tally would mark the first goal of the year for the sophomore. Assistant on the play was Kayla Kiernan (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Alexa Cappione (Massena, N.Y.). With Friday's draw, UMB now stands at 6-9-2 on the year, 3-5-2 in the ECAC East. For the host Panthers, they now hold a record of 3-11-1 overall, 2-6-1 in the conference.
Kelsey Maguire would score the lone goal for the Panthers at the 6:20 mark of the second period. On the night the Beacons would outshoot Plymouth 34-25, and would record the only shot in the five minute overtime.
UMB peppered the Panthers defense through the first two periods totaling 26 shots, while the Beacons defense held Plymouth to just 13 shots in the first 40 minutes of play. The Panthers did outshoot UMass in the final period 12-7.
Still tied at 1-1 through regulation, the two teams battled back and forth through throughout the overtime. Kiernan would put the only shot for UMass Boston on goal in the final five minutes of action.
Between the pipes Kailyn Burke (Franklin, Mass.) totaled 24 saves to earn her first tie of the year. The sophomore netminder now holds a record of 4-2-1. Ali Ponte made 33 stops for the Panthers, and has a record of 2-7-1.
Women's Hockey returns to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. when they travel to the University of Southern Maine.
