MANCHESTER, N.H. – With a pair of goals in each of the final two periods, the Hawks of St. Anselm College (10-3-2, 6-1-2 ECAC East) defeated women's ice hockey (5-9-1, 3-5-1 ECAC East) by the final of 4-0 Saturday afternoon in an ECAC East conference match-up at Sullivan Arena.
After a scoreless opening period, the Hawks got on the scoreboard five minutes into the second when Alex Kazmer ended the scoreless draw. Michelle Conway then made it a two goal game with less than three minutes to play in the period. A Courtney Winters goal at 11:42 and a Rosemarie Giarrusso power-play tally at 17:06 would seal the victory for the Hawks.
UMass Boston recorded a combined 27 shots in Saturday's tough conference loss, while St. Anselm put a combined 39 shots on UMB's Casey Schaejbe (Arlington, Mass.). The freshman netminder played a very strong game making a combined 35 stops.
Janie Michaud improved to 3-1-1 on the year after making all 27 saves to lead her team to the conference victory.
On the power-play UMB finished 0-for-4, while their Division II opponent went 1-for-5 on the afternoon.
Sophomore Dylan Caron (Burrillville, R.I.) led the Beacons offense with a combined six shots on goal, while classmates Emily Howard (Terryville, Conn.) and Kayla Kiernan (North Smithfield, R.I.) each recorded five.
Women's Hockey returns to action on Wednesday when they host Franklin Pierce University at 4 p.m. in the Clark Ice Arena.
