RYE, N.Y. – With two goals in the second and third periods, the Valiants of Manhattanville College (10-7-2, 8-3-1 ECAC East) defeated women's hockey (6-10-2, 4-8-1 ECAC East) by the final score of 4-1 Saturday afternoon at the Playland Ice Casino in the final regular season ECAC East meeting between the two squads.
Four different players found the back of the net to push the Valiants to the conference win. Going into Saturday's match-up Manhattanville had received votes on the most recent USCHO.com Division III Coaches Poll.
Netting the lone goal for UMass Boston was Dylan Caron (Burrillville, R.I.), with the assist going to Jess Salisbury (North Smithfield, R.I.). The duo connected for the game's first goal at the 13:08 mark in the opening frame. In that period, UMass Boston outshot their opponent 7-6.
Unfortunately they could not keep that momentum going in the final two frames, as the Valiants offense came alive to unload the four goals and a combined 27 shots. The Beacons offense would give it everything they had in the final 40 minutes of play as they totaled 17 shots.
Manhattanville got on the board at 9:59 in the second on a power-play goal from Lauren Nutkevitch. Less than three minutes later, Jessica Kehoe gave the Valiants their first lead of the day.
The final two goals of the afternoon came within the span of 30 seconds. Aubry Bachand netted the game's fourth goal at 18:12. Shortly after that Haleigh Hutchinson secured the victory with her seventh goal of the season at the 18:42 mark.
Between the pipes senior Leah Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn.) totaled 29 saves in the tough conference loss. Her Manhattanville counterpart Emy Cote made 21 stops to improve to 4-6-2 on the year.
On the power-play, UMass Boston ended 0-for-5, while Manhattanville was 1-for-4.
